How I Took Down This 238” Buck
The story of my buck started in January of 2008 when I saw him on a snowy single-digit day. I thought he was around 165" at that time. I put trail cameras out in the summer of 2009 and started getting a few nighttime pictures of him.
October 12, 2009 was my second encounter with him. He came within 50 yards but I couldn't get a shot. This time I knew he was something special. I thought he was in the 190's.
I was at Weasner Archery Shop in Bloomville, Ohio talking with Ray Weasner about the Ozonics HR-100 he had on display and bought one. So I hunted the 2009 season with it and ended up taking a deer scoring 168 7/8.
In August, September and October, 2010, I got around a 100 pictures of him. He was very nocturnal and huge! I bought a new Ozonics HR-200 from Weasner and was using it at all times while hunting. I was hunting October 29th and after my hunt I pulled my SD card from my camera and had my first two mid-day pictures of him.
So, on October 30th I got in my stand at 1pm. I saw my first deer at 2:30pm, a doe directly downwind around 30-40 yds away. She bedded down and, with my Ozonics machine above my head, she didn't detect me at all. At 5:15 I saw him for the third time ever and he was coming around the woods towards the bedded doe. He made a big rub on his way to the doe. At 47 yards and directly down wind, I was able to arrow him. He went 40 yards after the shot.
The Ozonics HR-200 helped me take down a dream buck!! The buck scored 238 3/8 gross and netted 226 2/8 after deductions.
